Tekantó, Yucatán — A 19-hour blackout in the small municipality of Tekantó has created losses for thousands of area residents.
The tiny town was without electricity for 19 hours which began Wednesday morning when the state supplied power gave out. The outage was recorded around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday and not restored until 8:10 a.m. Thursday.
The entire municipality remained in a blackout without power, affecting homes and businesses and generating thousands in losses.
Local residents attributed the power failure due “to the negligence and disinterest of the CFE office in Izamal, which did not send its staff to make corrections.” There was no official report as to the actual cause of the CFE failure.
Earlier this month, a CFE power failure left a large portion of the Yucatan peninsula in the dark after a reported fire at La Joya, Campeche. The blackout, which lasted less than 30 minutes in most places, affected homes and businesses from Yucatan to Cancun and down through Tulum.
