5.7 magnitude earthquake recorded in Chiapas, felt in several states

Arriaga, Chiapas — A earthquake was recorded several kilometers outside the town of Arriaga in the state of Chiapas. The quake came hours after a city-wide earthquake drill was carried out in Mexico City.

The 5.7 tremor was recorded by the National Seismologico Service at 4:43 p.m. Monday approximately 39 kilometers from Arriaga, Chiapas.

Movement was reported in Oaxaca, Tabasco and Veracruz. The national coordinator of Civil Protection, Luis Felipe Puente, said that so far no injuries or damages have been reported after the earthquake.

He noted however, that the State Civil Protection Units of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco are evaluating the area. On their Twitter account, @SismologicoMX specified that the movement northwest of Arriaga was 97 kilometers deep.
