Tapachula, Chiapas — Surveillance over the sea has resulted in the seizure of approximately 520 kilograms of cocaine off the coast of Chiapas.
An aircraft of the Mexican Navy flying over the coast of Chiapas reported seeing a suspicious vessel. The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico says that crew of the boat were taken by surprise by the aircraft and began tossing their cargo.
After watching the reaction, members of the navy intercepted the boat by water while keeping tabs on it in the air. When they arrived, they found 17 large packages of cocaine that weighed approximately 520 kilos.
The boat and drugs were handed over to the Public Ministry of the Federation for further investigation. They report that by the time they got to the boat, the crew had left, so there were no arrests.
According to the navy, so far this year, more than 12 tons of cocaine have been seized in the Mexican Pacific along with an excess of more than 23,000 liters of fuel.
