Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — A five-year-old lioness who was found malnourished and roaming the streets near Puerto Vallarta has been moved to an animal shelter in Mexico City, environmental officials said.
The authorities have not said how the animal came to La Palapa, a hamlet in the mountains about 13 kilometers from the popular tourist port.
The Federal Procurator for Environmental Protection (Propefa) indicated that they are trying to determine if the lioness has some type of integrated identification circuit and who owns it. She also noted that she was dehydrated and had small head and leg wounds.
While the animal has been relocated to a shelter in Mexico City, authorities still have no explanation as to she arrived at the port.
