American man shot, killed while in Acapulco restaurant

Acapulco, Guerrero — An American man was shot and killed Saturday while at a restaurant in Acapulco with his wife, who was left injured.

The shooing happened by a group of armed men on the coastal avenue of the Port of Acapulco. According to local reports, the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when an armed group opened fire on those inside a seafood restaurant in front of the recently remodeled waterfront next to the Buenosairean Zocalo.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Esteban N of Mexican origin who lived in the city of Fresno, California. His wife, 25-year-old Zulema, was shot and injured but no details were provided.

The attack caused terror among dozens of tourists who were in the area. The crisis was heightened when authorities learned the shooting resulted in the death of an American tourist.

Soldiers deployed to locate the attackers, but came up empty-handed. To date, the reason for the attack in the tourist area of Acapulco remains unknown.
