American passenger opens door when plane about to take off from Cancun airport

Cancun, Q.R. — An American tourist who panicked while onboard a plan about to take off from the Cancun airport was removed after causing alarm to other passengers.

The incident occurred earlier in the week when an adult male passenger began to suffer anxiety attacks as the plane was getting ready to leave the tarmac. Passengers on board the Frontier Airline plane bound for St. Louis, Missouri say that the man ran up the isle around 2:00 p.m. and began pounding on the cockpit door.

With engines running, the panicked passenger opened the main cabin door, activating the emergency chute. Before he was able to jump, crew and passengers managed to stop the man, who they say could have been sucked into the powerful engines.

Police were called to remove the man from the plane. He has been identified as Tommy Gary. He was taken to hospital accompanied by his father, with whom he was traveling.

The flight was canceled for the day with some passengers spending a night in Cancun while others opted for a different same-day flight.
