Another two-ton cocaine shipment seized off Mexico coast

Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca — The Secretariat of the Navy Mexico (Semar) seized more than two tons of cocaine southwest of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca Friday.

The federal government says eight people were arrested after police seized two tones of cocaine from a vessel off the shores of Oaxaca. Mexican navy personnel detained one Canadian, three Colombians and four Mexicans.

They explained that the day before, personnel assigned to the Eighth Naval Region based in Acapulco, Guerrero seized 66 packages of cocaine with an approximate weight of 2,250 kilograms.

The capture was achieved after conducting maritime surveillance operations approximately 150 nautical miles (278 kilometers) southwest of Puerto Escondido. The bust came when an aircraft from the Mexican Navy sighted a suspicious vessel with two outboard motors with suspicious cargo.

Four marine boats and two helicopters were involved in the drug bust.
