Cancun, Riviera Maya continue to attract new flights

Cancun, Q.R. — The Cancun International Airport is set to receive more new flights this year thanks to a successful recent tourist show.

The state of Quintana Roo participated in the recent Tianguis Turístico 2019 held in Acapulco where the Cancun, Riviera Maya region was promoted. From these week-long promotions, the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo says that several new direct flights from Turkey, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Spain and the United States have been added to this years’ flight list.

They report that Interjet will operate the Medellín-Cancún route and Aeroméxico will offer new Cali-Cancún, Quito-Cancún and Minneapolis-Cancún.

The Evelop company will operate the Madrid-Cancun route with an Airbus 350 aircraft, which has more seats, while Viva Aerobús will offer new routes from Hermosillo-Cancún and Tijuana-Cancún as well as chartered flights from New York, Cincinnati, Raleigh and Nashville.

The city of Brasilia will connect with Cancún on airline Gol with four flights a week and in August, Turkish Airlines will offer a new Istanbul-Cancun flight with a stopover in Mexico City.

Several national flights have also been added including flights from Sonora, Baja California and Monterrey.

The Mexican Carribbean continues to grow with ASUR reporting 2,416 flights over the recent Easter holiday season. Last week, the Cancun International Airport catered to 963 national flights and 1,453 international.
