This year, Club Med Cancun was voted a Family Friendly Favorite 2017 by Family Vacation Critic, a TripAdvisor site dedicated to family vacations. Club Med Cancun won the recognition for having at least 75 percent of the recommended votes with a four or five-star review. Sandra Hernández,
General Manager of Club Med Mexico said,”We are doubly proud because this recognition is a product of the work of all who collaborate in Club Med, and because Mexico is already the 2nd most important destination for the company in Latin America. It is precisely the Mexican Caribbean, where our resort is located, a key destination.”
Club Med at G Ixtapa Zihuatanejo was also recognized in 2017 with a Green Globe award for its environmental protection strategies.
Since 2010, Club Med has collaborated with Green Globe, a certification program for sustainable tourism that guarantees the saving of natural resources, the reduction of operating costs and the positive impact on local communities and the environment. Green Globe certifies all companies in the global travel and tourism industry that improve their environmental performance through responsible practices.
“During the last year, we have done a lot of work both the team of GE’s (Gentiles Employees) and our GO’s® (Gentiles Organizers), all trained in sustainable development issues, achieving our goal with success.
“At Club Med we believe that the challenge is not simply to be sustainable, but to stay and improve each time,” said Nathan Histon, Club Med Cancun Services Manager.
As a sign of its great responsibility with the environment, Club Med has set the goal of certifying all its properties. Currently, 73 percent of its resorts are already endorsed by Green Globe, that is, of the total of 66 resorts in the world, 47 already have the certification.
In 2008, Opio en Provence, France, was the first resort of Club Med that obtained the certification of sustainability. To date, in the European region, 22 of the 30 properties of the company are already endorsed by Green Globe. In Asia, 9 of the 12 resorts are certified, in the Middle East and Africa region, all resorts – 11 in all – are certified by Green Globe.
In America, Club Med has 11 properties, and 5 of them already hold the Green Globe certification. The Green Globe certification involves an annual audit, in order to validate that sustainable actions and objectives are carried out in a precise manner, which results in the renewal of the certificate.
