Acapulco, Guerrero — The famous cliff diving area of Acapulco underwent a temporary closure this month when officials found several unsafe instances in the construction of the diving area.
Inspectors from the Federal Office of Environmental Protection (Profepa) detected a floor of concrete undermined safety standards as well as the displacement of construction material along the seabed in the famous tourist point of Acapulco.
The Federal Office of Environmental Protection (Profepa) temporarily closed the works and activities that were carried out for the expansion of the diving platform on the crags of La Quebrada, in Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero.
When not presenting the authorization in matter of Environmental Impact, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), the inspectors proceeded to impose as a security measure the Total Temporary Closure of the works and activities described, placing a seal with the caption CLAUSURADO.
Through a statement Profepa, said that those responsible for these works and activities could be given a substantial fine. Consequently, it will have to comply with the temporary or definitive closure, total or partial of the activities as a sanction, in accordance with the law.
