Federal officials arrest cartel member, seize 505 kilos of cocaine

Culiacán, Sinaloa — More than 500 kilos of cocaine have been confiscated and a cartel member arrested after a military operation.

The Attorney General’s Office says that members of the Secretariat of National Defense confiscated 505 kilos of cocaine and arrested a member of the Sinaloa cartel.

In a brief press conference, Pedro Guevara, coordinator of Supervision and Regional Control, announced the arrest and seizure were the result of an operation in which the military detained a man identified as José Antonio “N”, when he was found transporting two kilos of cocaine.

Subsequently, the Federal Public Ministry continued with the investigation and found 498 packages of cocaine with a weight of 505 kilos. They also discovered 985 grams of methamphetamine, which was hidden in an in-ground cistern of a parking lot located in the center of Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The official said that the drugs belonged to the Sinaloa cartel and that this large seizure will affect the drug cartel’s operations in the capital of Sinaloa.
