First tropical storm of year, Aletta forms in Pacific

Tropical storm Aletta has developed in the Pacific, creating a weather-watch in the areas of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Nayarit.

According to the National Meteorological Service, the first tropical storm of the season was named at 4:00 a.m. in the Pacific after it advanced from a tropical depression 2-E. Aletta is located between Punta San Telmo, Michoacán and Manzanillo, Colima with winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 95 kilometers per hour.

Meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center in the United States predict that tropical storm Aletta will become Hurricane Aletta sometime Thursday, as she continues to slowly move westward out into the Pacific at 11 kilometers per hour.

Bands from the system will leave the areas of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Nayarit with the potential for strong rain storms.
