Former attorney general of Veracruz arrested for kidnapping

Mexico City, Mexico — Accused of the crime of kidnapping, former Attorney General of the State of Veracruz, Luis Ángel Bravo Contreras, has been arrested in Mexico City .

Luis Ángel Bravo Contreras was appointed as public prosecutor by Javier Duarte de Ochoa with the endorsement of the Veracruz Congress. He was in charge from January 30, 2015 to December 30, 2016.

The current Prosecutor’s Office of Veracruz had obtained an injunction against him by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Missing Persons on May 11 of this year. A Red notice was also flagged against him with Interpol.

Luis Ángel Bravo is accused of allegedly intervening in the commission of the crime of forced disappearance (kidnapping) of persons in the manner of hindering the investigation and supporting those responsible for evading justice.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, he ordered personnel under his command to hide and alter the discovery of 13 bodies, which were located in the place known as La Barranca de La Aurora in the municipality of Emiliano Zapata, Veracruz .

In the investigation states that the remaining bodies were hidden and that at least one was simulated to be found in another location in the municipality of Alto Lucero. That body was of a former police officer.

Involved in the same criminal case, three former officials remain in jail including the former General Director of Expert Services, Gilberto Aguirre Garza, former Delegate of the Ministerial Police, Carlota Zamudio Parroquia and the former director of Ministerial Investigations of the Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Veracruz.
