Gang leader who faked death to avoid arrest, arrested

Nuevo Leon, Monterrey — Federal police in Nuevo Leon have arrested a organized gang leader after he faked his death for more than a year.

In Monterrey, the Federal Police and the State Police of Nuevo Leon detained Luis Alberto Blanco Flores, alias El Pelochas, who is identified as a leader of the Gulf Cartel in Tamaulipas. Authorities say he is one of the main generators of violence in the state.

Suspecting his was alive, authorities offered two million peso for information leading to his capture.

In February 2017, cameras from C4 in the municipality of Río Bravo, Tamaulipas captured Luis Alberto Blanco Flores with other people outside a convenience store which was on the corner of the Municipal Palace (city hall).

At the time, El Pelochas was already identified as one of the most dangerous criminals in Tamaulipas.

Luis Alberto Blanco Flores was transferred by helicopter to Ciudad Victoria where he was placed at the disposal of a judge. He has arrest warrants for extortion and criminal associations.
