Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas — Journalist Héctor González Antonio was murdered in Cuidad Victoria Tuesday. Police are unsure what provoked the killing.
The Attorney General’s Office of Tamaulipas reported Tuesday morning that the body of journalist Héctor González Antonio was found on a street in Colonia Estrella in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
According to investigations, Héctor González Antonio died from being beaten, however, authorities have yet to determine how his death was provoked.
Francisco Cabeza de Vaca, governor of Tamaulipas, expressed his “most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues” of the journalist Héctor González Antonio, who was found beaten to death on Tuesday.
González Antonio was a journalist with the media company Grupo Imagen. The company posted on Twitter, “His death will not go unpunished. They have my commitment that the responsible party will be investigated and punished. Rest in Peace.”
The Attorney General of Tamaulipas stressed that they will continue to report on the progress of their investigations.
His death is only one in a string of journalist’s deaths around the country already this year. The last noted death was that of Juan Carlos Huerta Gutiérrez in May. Huerta Gutiérrez was a radio and television news host. He was ambushed on a street in Villahermosa and shot while in his car.
