Helicopter crash kills five Christmas Eve day

Santa María Coronango, Puebla — A helicopter carrying five crashed in a field Christmas eve day killing all on board.

The helicopter reportedly crashed around 2:40 p.m. three nautical miles from the Puebla airport. The crash happened about 10 minutes after they left the Triángulo de las Ánimas heliport bound for Miguel Hidalgo City Hall in CDMX.

Two of the plane’s passengers included Puebla government officials Senator Moreno Valle and his wife, the governor of Puebla, Erika Alonso.

Reports say the helicopter collapsed in a field in Santa María Coronango. In a media message, the Secretary of Public Safety, Alfonso Durazo said “Communication with the crew was lost. A bang was heard.”

The federal official explained that the helicopter, owned by the company Servicios Aereos del Altiplano, SA de CV, was effected by a fault but did not specify, while Javier Jiménez Espriú, Secretary of Communications and Transport, asked the public to not speculate about the cause of the accident.

The Mexican Army have since taped off the area, protecting the crime scene. The guarded area has been extended by several meters around the impact site in which the couple was traveling along with two members of the crew and the assistant of Senator Moreno Valle.
