Tulum, Quintana Roo — For the second time in nearly a week, human remains have been found in the popular tourist region.
Early Wednesday morning, the head of a man was found two blocks from a primary school in the center of Tulum. Emergency 911 received the call from a passerby who noted finding the human remains.
According to preliminary information, a human head was abandoned two houses away from the Julio Ruelas primary school. Next to it a message was left on a blanket.
Municipal and Ministerial Police arrived to tape off the area while the forensics unit came to remove the remains. Details of the event are not yet known. This is the first death for Tulum in the new year.
On December 20, a similar event occurred in the city of Cancun when the naked, decapitated body of man was found on Nichupté Avenue at the height of Supermanzana 51.
Several motorists reported seeing the body dumped from a car at approximately at 12:30 in the morning. Authorities received a report in which they indicated that a group of men had left the body of a person on the sidewalk and behind it hung a message.
Police arrived at the site located by the Aguakan station. Criminal experts said that the body of a decapitated male person was left sitting on the sidewalk with his head between his legs.
