Baja California — Hurricane Sergio has done a U-turn and is slowly heading toward the coast of Baja California.
The National Meteorological Service reports that the category 2 hurricane will make its way toward land later in the week, but will lose much of its status before actually making landfall. While a hurricane now, Sergio will become downgraded to a tropical cyclone by the time it reaches the coast of Mexico Friday.
Meteorologist Alex Ramírez Olvera anticipate Sergio will reach the peninsula of Baja California during the early morning hours of Friday north of Cabo San Lucas.
As of Sunday morning, Olvera reported Hurricane Sergio was located 1,935 km west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas with winds of 185 kms / hour and gusts of 220 kms/hour.
