Man attacks police with acid, machete to avoid arrest

Santa Cristina, Coahuila — Two policeman who were responding to a report of family violence were attacked by a man who was trying to avoid being arrested.

The incident took place at a private residence in the town of Santa Cristina when a 39-year-old man identified only as Oscar N, was reported by his family for violence. When police responded to the call, one of the officers was attacked with acid.

The officer had acid thrown in his face by Oscar, who police were in the process of arresting. Oscar then proceeded to assault the second arresting officer with a machete, however, that officer managed to subdue him with “a strong blow to the head”.

Both officers were transferred to hospital. Authorities have yet to say if a legal complaint will be filed with the Prosecutor’s Office against Óscar N for the the crime of family violence or if the officers will file charges against him.
