Man in Sonora airport threatens passengers, ends life

Hermosillo, Sonora — A man who threatened passengers at the Hermosillo airport has taken his own life in an airport bathroom.

On Sunday, passengers along with guests inside the International General Ignacio Pesqueira Hermosillo Airport witnessed a man who threatened people around him with a knife.

The incident occurred at 2:00 p.m. on the second floor of the airport when the subject entered the kitchen of the Wing’s restaurant, grabbed a knife, then began threatening customers. He then went into a bathroom stall in the airport and, through self-inflicted wounds, took his own life.

“PF Airport informs the public that an external person entered the kitchen area and took a knife threatening people who were in the restaurant. He then left the establishment and entered the bathroom where he injured himself when seeing agents. Federal Police fired a gun to intimidate the subject. Support of the Red Cross was requested,” says a preliminary report.

The suspect did receive first aid but died from his injuries. The airport was secured by the Mexican Army, Municipal, State and Federal police who cordoned off the area, while experts from the Ministerial Agency for Criminal Investigation investigated the crime scene.
