Police officer arrested for assault, abuse of authority against journalist

Mexicali, Baja California — The Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) arrested Fabricio Valenzuela Ruiz in the municipality of Mexicali, Baja California in compliance with an arrest warrant for his probable responsibility in the crime of illegal deprivation of liberty and aggravated robbery to the detriment of journalist, Mariano Soto Cortez on February 15 of this year.

Personnel assigned to the AIC specified the location and capture of Valenzuela Ruiz who is also accused of abuse of authority, illegal deprivation of liberty, torture, extortion and kidnapping.

The accused 38-year-old Valenzuela Ruiz, was working as General Operative Director of the State Police of Baja California.

The capture was made with due process attachment and at all times their rights were respected.

The PGR said that the detainee will be placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority for further investigation.
