More than 2,000 cultural monuments repaired in year since Mexico’s earthquakes

Mexico City, Mexico — In the one year since the devastating September earthquakes, more than 2,000 cultural buildings and historical monuments have been restored in the 11 affected states.

President Enrique Peña Nieto says 2,340 monuments and buildings including churches representing the cultural legacy of Mexico, have been restored along with 41 archaeological sites.

“The work progresses according to the established program, and in some cases, it is about projects that will take almost four years.”

During the 2018 Luz de Plata Award for la Trayectoria Cinematográfica, he highlighted that Mexican cinema “Is a critical reflection of our reality and a mirror of who we are,” adding that is why 570 movies were given federal support during his administration.
