Nephew of former Gulf Cartel drug leader arrested

San Francisco de Matamoros, Tamaulipas — A family member of a former drug cartel leader has been reported arrested by officials of the Mexican Marinas.

Elements of the Marina, Secretariat of Mexico in coordination with Federal Authorities have detained José Alfredo “N”, the presumed nephew of the former leader of the Gulf Cartel, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén.

In a statement, officials said that the arrest was the result of a citizen complaint and field work that led to the capture of the wanted criminal known as El Contador. He was apparently arrested in  the subdivision San Francisco de Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

The arresting personnel were able to locate the man after they were provided with the address of a house where someone reported a group of armed persons, who they presumed, were members of an organized crime group.

Reacting on the tip, marina personnel went to the area and located the group, however, when those inside detected the presence of the marina elements, they fled in different directions.

Inside the house, officials found weapons distributed exclusively for the Mexican Armed Forces. They also found drugs. One person was taken into custody from inside the house, the alleged nephew of a former Gulf Cartel gang leader.
