Cancun, Quintana Roo — A recently opened Senor Frogs Hotel and Hostel in Cancun has been temporarily closed for building violations that include a lack of permits. Since the March 12th closure, however, residents have detected other potential violations.
After an inspection of the newly opened Senor Frogs Hotel and Hostel in the Cancun Hotel Zone, authorities found the hotel constructed a pier into protected waters, which lacked the appropriate environmental permit normally issued by the federal government.
The hotel was given a complete, temporary closure, but residents have since found other possible environmental violations including a grey water leak into the lagoon.
Today the hotel has large closure seals across its face and pier, but is carrying on with business as usual. They have also been found leaking grey water into the Nichupté lagoon.
The manager briefly commented that the ordered closure is for the remodeling work in the back of the building, which does not prevent them from operating, however, according to a statement from the federal agency, the hotel received a “temporary, total closure of all work and activities inspected.”
