One-ton drug bust made at Tijuana airport

Tijuana, Baja California — A massive drug bust at the Aeropuerto Internacional de Tijuana has resulted in the confiscation of nearly one ton of illegal substances.

La Policía Federal and la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional in the state of Baja California report making the large bust after the inspection of a vehicle. Officials report that the inspection of a truck by the División de Seguridad Regional led to the discovery of nearly one ton of methamphetamine and more than 50 kilos of cocaine and heroin.

The bust occurred at the Tijuana International Airport after an on-site narcotics dog made a positive identification regarding the presence of illegal drugs.

The inspection was made in the yard as part of the prevention of trafficing of narcotics, substances and prohibited objects. Officers opened the truck and found it carrying 37 boxes containing packages of methamphetamine weighing approximately 922 kilograms.

Officers also found two boxes that contained smaller packages totaling 39.7 kilos of cocaine 10.8 kilos of heroin.

The driver of the truck, the vehicle and drugs were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry Agent in Tijuana, Baja California for legal proceedings.
