Mexico City, Mexico — Prime Minister Allen Chastanet arrived in Mexico today for the first official visit of a Head of Government of Saint Lucia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1979.
During his stay in Mexico, Prime Minister Chastanet met with President Enrique Peña Nieto and Secretaries of State to discuss possible bilateral cooperation programs, which focus on the technical, scientific, educational and infrastructure areas, as well as issues such as climate change, commercial facilitation and comprehensive risk management.
In addition, the Prime Minister gave a keynote address at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will hold a meeting with Mexican businessmen to publicize the opportunities offered by Saint Lucia in terms of investment and trade.
Saint Lucia, an Anglophone Caribbean country, gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1979. Since then it has actively promoted the integration of the region through active participation in regional mechanisms such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organization of American States Eastern Caribbean (OECS), with headquarters in Castries, Saint Lucia.
