Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo — Qualifiers for the upcoming OHL Golf Classic at Mayakoba in Mexico’s Riviera Maya have been announced.
This year, Mexicans participating in the November PGA golf tournament will include Carlos Ortiz, José de Jesús Rodríguez, Abraham Ancer, Roberto Díaz and Óscar Fraustro at the El Camaleón golf course.
“There are already 21 Mexican entries in Mayakoba history. No event has done as much as OHL and Mayakoba to support and encourage Mexican success on the PGA Tour,” said tournament director Joe Mazzeo.
Others participating in the tournament this year include Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuelan, Emiliano Grillo of Argentine and Camilo Villegas from Colombia. This year will be the seventh consecutive Mayakoba tournament for Vega and the fifth for Villegas. It will be the second time Grillo has played this tournament.
American Rickie Fowler, who at 28 has already won four circuit titles placing number seven in the world, will also be playing Mayakoba this year.
“Announcing Rickie was participating in the OHL Classic 2017 is really exciting because the tournament continues to grow each year as one of the premier events on the PGA Tour and on Mexico’s sports calendar,” said Mazzeo.
The OHL Classic will be held from November 9 to 12 at the El Camaleón golf course outside Playa del Carmen in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. The prize pool this year is $7.1 million USD.
