Residents, business owners run for cover in Zihuatanejo bullet spree

Zihuatanejo, Guerrero — More than 30 shots rang out in a neighborhood of Zihuatanejo as residents and business owners ran for cover.

Police received a 911 call from residents the of Los Amuzgos neighborhood where they say a car entered the area and began firing.

Neighbors said that it was around 1:00 p.m. when a Mazda car entered the neighborhood and began firing shots at an abandoned car with tinted windows. More than 30 shots were apparently fired before police arrived on the scene.

Most people took refuge in their homes while police arrived to cordon off the area while collecting shell casings. The bullet-riddled car was towed and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for further investigation.
