Hermosillo, Sonora — A six-ton drug bust has been made off the coast of Sonora after members of the Secretaría de Marina spotted two suspicious boats during a routine air patrol.
The two small boats were discovered in a mangrove that smugglers covered in brush in an attempt to camouflage them. An air patrol by the Navy of Mexico noticed the two vessels had their cargo tarped. When they approached the boats, marine officials found a large variety of drugs on board.
In a press release, the Navy Secretariat of Mexico says they seized a total of 4,863 kilograms of marijuana, 2.5 kilograms of marijuana seeds, 1,731 kilograms of crystal, 1.1 kilograms of fentanyl in paste form, 2.6 kilograms of fentanyl in pills and 8.1 kilograms of heroin.
Although no arrests were made, everything was seized and made available to the Agente del Ministerio Público Federal of Hermosillo, Sonora.
