Huimanguillo, Tabasco — A 3-year-old boy that went missing April 9 was discovered deceased after his parents received a ransom call demanding payment for his safe return.
The incident occurred in the municipality of Huimanguillo in the southeastern state of Tabasco April 9 when Emilio’s parents sent him to a store near his house. A young man and women were allegedly waiting for the little boy when they injected him with a sedative and kidnapped him.
The kidnappers then proceeded to call the child’s parents, requesting money for his safe return, however, with limited resources, the family was without the money to pay. They called police in an attempt to find their son.
General Prosecutor of the State of Tabasco, Fernando Valenzuela Pernas, said that the kidnappers tried to carry out an “express kidnapping” to demand money from the parents. While they agreed to a minimum amount to release the child, the family did not have the money because they are poor and the negotiation could not be finalized.
After the intense search by authorities, 3-year-old Emilio’s lifeless body was discovered in a cardboard box hidden near a house located two buildings away from where Emilio’s parents lived.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the three-year-old boy was deprived of his liberty and taken to a house where he suffered ill-treatment and died from asphyxiation by hanging on the same day.
Police have arrested two people in the murder of the child. A 26-year-old nursing student and her boyfriend, an 18-year-old who is allegedly the person who injected the child with the sedative.
The pair who kidnapped and killed the child were neighbors of the family.
The autopsy confirmed that the child was sedated and suffered physical abuse including a fracture in a rib. The body was found in a cardboard box.
“The Prosecutor’s Office of Tabasco is dismayed by this atrocious crime,” said Valenzuela Pernas adding that the FGE deals with all kinds of tragic events, “but this monstrous crime has us shocked,” he said.
Through social networks, Tabasco residents are calling for death or life imprisonment for the pair.
