Villahermosa, Tabasco — Two American men have been arrested in the Mexican state of Tabasco for what authorities are calling gun running.
According to police, at around 7:00 a.m. Monday, two men passed the Sueño de Oro checkpoint in Tabasco without stopping as indicated by on-site authorities. Driving a Texas-plated Acura SUV, the two men were stopped several kilometers later just prior to customs.
The two men, who identified themselves as being of US nationality, had their vehicle inspected. Mexican officials found several weapons inside the vehicle including three assault rifles known as AR-15 submachine guns and a 40-millimeter squad revolver.
The Mexican Navy, who preformed the inspection, said they presume the duo to be part of a band of armed traffickers in the Mexican southeast who transport guns from Guatemala to the interior of the country.
The American men have been identified as Miguel N and Jeremy N. The two had their illegal weapons seized and were placed before the Mexican Public Ministry Office for processing.
