Cancun, Q.R. — Passengers on a Thomas Cook flight out of Cancun say their flight was delayed 56 hours.
A flight that was supposed to depart the Cancun International Airport Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. didn’t actually leave the airport until Saturday at midnight. The Thomas Cook flight was scheduled to take vacationing Cancun passengers back to Manchester, however, hundreds were forced to wait out a technical delay.
Thomas Cook has apologize for the delay and passengers say they are now seeking compensation. Approximately 200 Thomas Cook travelers were left to wait out the 56-hour delay.
One Cancun vacationer said that due to the delay, he missed his best friend’s wedding. According to Manchester Evening News, 41-year-old Darren Jamieson was in Cancun from Ellesmere Port celebrating his first wedding anniversary.
“Our original Thomas Cook flight was due out Wednesday at 3.50 p.m. Cancun time. We were taken off the plane due to a technical fault after a couple of hours and all shipped to hotels that night.
“We were told we’d fly the following day. We then had an update of midnight the following day, Thursday, and to be in the reception for 11:00 a.m. for confirmation.”
The passengers from the Thomas Cook flight were given hotel rooms by the company during the technical delay.
“We were then told 6.30 p.m. on Friday and we’d be picked up at 3:00 p.m. A rep arrived before 3:00 p.m. and said he had an update, but didn’t know what it was. We were waiting for him to get a phone call.
“He’s now said the spare part they are waiting for is stuck in customs and we’ll have another update. We were promised a flight at 11:00 p.m. It was after midnight, makes it a 56-hour delay. I missed the wedding though,” Jamieson explained.
A Thomas Cook spokesperson said, “Our flight from Cancun to Manchester was delayed due to a technical fault. We are extremely sorry to our customers for the length of this delay and appreciate the frustration this must be causing.”
